Chiaroscuro Records Welcomes Celebrated Podcast Guests Tom Scott, Jack Jones, “Blue” Lou Marini, Clifford Carter

(Delaware Water Gap, PA) – The Chiaroscuro Records Jazz Podcast new season begins with four master marquee artists who personify the pinnacle of artistry in jazz and popular music: Tom Scott, Jack Jones, Clifford Carter and “Blue” Lou Marini (in that order). The podcast launches October 17th, 2023 and is hosted by Chiaroscuro Records Director of A & R, George Graham, and can be streamed at chiaroscurojazz.org or YouTube. New episodes appear every Wednesday.

This star-studded season launches with the premier episode spotlighting the Jazzman himself, Tom Scott. The three-time Grammy Award winner and world renowned saxophonist/woodwind player takes us on a journey through his half-century career as a studio musician, solo recording artist, and live performer at the highest level.

Scott cites several Chiaroscuro artists as influences while infusing the interview with humor and captivating tales surrounding his collaborations with the Blues Brothers, Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan. Scott’s years as a guest artist spans more than 2000 recordings by such diverse artists as Barbra Streisand, Quincy Jones, Thelonious Monk, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Paul McCartney and Carole King.

By many measures, Jack Jones was the most popular singer to emerge between the heyday of Elvis Presley and the rise of the Beatles. Considered the singer’s-singer, in the span of two short years he snagged two Grammy Awards for Pop Male Performance with “Lollipops and Roses” in 1962 and “Wives and Lovers” in 1964! This was enough to lay a foundation for a career that lasted to this day. Long considered the singer’s singer, Jones’ recording of The Love Boat theme and “The Impossible Dream,” loom large in his legend. He discusses his roots coming up in the golden era of TV, film and recording, his family’s involvement in the business and his new album ARTWORK featuring the late beloved Joey DeFrancesco.

First-call pianist and keyboard virtuoso Clifford Carter is one of popular music’s unsung heroes. He’s impacted the music world with generous contributions to the careers of James Taylor, Bill Evans, Bryan Ferry Linda Ronstadt, Paul Simon, Natalie Cole, Ralph McDonald, Art Garfunkel, Herbie Mann, Jaco Pastorius and Bruce Springsteen. Carter discusses the struggle and benefits of toughing it out in his early years and seems to put the struggle of life as a professional musician in jazz into perspective very well. He was a featured artist at Carnegie Hall.

This season of podcasts winds down with multi-instrumentalist and true master of many styles and instruments, “Blue” Lou Marini. Marini is an accomplished soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone sax, piccolo, flute, alto flute, bass flute and clarinet player who is seemingly everywhere all the time.. On Marini’s episode we travel through time and discover influences and inspirations the drive this diverse musician. He navigates egos and bobs and weaves his way through timeless sessions and stage appearance with a bold confidence that many other players would shy away from. He’s recorded with music’s’ elite: Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Aerosmith, Billy Joel, B.B. King, Luther Vandross, Lou Reed, Brecker Brothers, Dr. John, Donald Fagan, Jimmy Buffet, Frank Zappa, and Steely Dan. He’s has also performed with Eric Clapton Smokey Robinson, Jose Carreras, Lou Rawls, The Supremes, Dr. John, Four Tops, Sting, James Taylor, Tina Turner and famously Frank Zappa. He recounts a particularly embarrassing and legendary event with Zappa on stage at New York City’s Palladium in this episode.
